Pomegranate a day, keeps the doctor away!

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim,

Alexandrians gathered on 26th march at Yusraa for one of Kebajikan's program; "Let's talk about food." Now if u think it was a typical video sharing and get-about talk, well it's more than that because everybody leaves today acknowledging and appreciating more of our body and our health.

You ever get so sick of people saying and reminding us to take good care of our health? To exercise often? To eat vegetables and live a healthy diet life blablabla?. Well, after watching the documentary hosted by world famous chef Jamie Oliver it sure knocked senses into us! The video features the food we eat; fast food, junk food, even the health result of a vegetarian and a non-obese person. Just because u're not fat so you think u're healthy?. Think again! In an experiment in this video, the obese guy ran longer than the normal-weight guy. And result shows that the normal weight guy has more fats than the obese. So again..life aren't that simple. Being healthy is something we need to strive for and maintain it. How?. First maybe is by being moderate in everything we eat! Lil bit of fruits, veges, meats, milk, rice and fats..how hard can that be?. :)

The real eye opener was a corpse of an obese man. And what was underneath his skin?. All the fat layers covering the heart and pushing up the lungs causing him to his death. It shows half of his intestine areas was huge lumps of fats! How gross was that?? So again we ask, do we want to be like that person? Do we want to eat ourself to death?? Oh please no, because health is a crown that was awarded for us ONCE. We treasure it..take real good care of it cause once we lose it..we've lost it all. So all, let's start living the way we should be living by exercising, eating the good stuff and stay away from the danger zone..shall we?. ;))

To sum all this up, a very big 'THANK YOU' for:

  1. Our chefs of the day; Ukt Sakinah with her healthy yet yummy Okonomiyaki. And ukt Sarah for the all time favourite; Shepard's pie.
  2. Our invited speaker; Ukt Liyana for sharing her experience in cooking and eating while overseas.
  3. Our Kebajikan Unit; leader-ed by Ukt Fadhlina and her 2 best women; Ukt Zurainah and Ukt Ulfah for making this evening a successful one!
  4. Last but not least, to the supportive Alexandrian girls who came and made this day even possible!.

May Allah showered his endless blessings and gifts on us. Hope we've benefited from this program and to the programs yet to come!
Next event; Seeking the ray of light. So till then, take care all! <3<3

Thank you,

With an open arms..

On wednesday, 9th December 2009 Alexandrian girls were blessed to share an evening session with our beloved asatizahs from Singapore. Other than spending their time holiday-ing with their beloved ones here in Egypt,they decided to visit us regardless their busy schedule and we thank them and Allah for that. Qola Ta'la in his noble Quran:

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاكُم مِّن ذَكَرٍ وَأُنثَى وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ شُعُوباً وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا

"O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. one of the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2)]. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware." (Surah Hujuraat; 13)

Through experienced and studies,the asatizahs were equipped with opinions, views and advices for us to become a better student with greater achievements. At the same time,preparing us with some brief expectation from the society of an intellectual dai' in today's challenging world.
Some of the points highlighted was the importance of reading not just kuliah subjects by Aljunied's vice principal; Ustaz Mokson Mahori,it is also a key to becoming an intelligent preacher.
Aljunied's Executive Director; Ustaz Md Murat Md Aris, also shared with us tips on success and a key to that is to SET A TARGET.
This reminds me of a saying; "Always aim for the sky, for if u fall at least you can reach the clouds."

Over some beverages and tea, Ust Murat also encouraged us to continue seeking for knowledge; (regardless Islamic or academic) as both are important for success in this world and hereafter. He also expressed his worries on the generation gap between the 'experienced' asatizahs and us, that might cause insecurities and doubts from the society. Therefore as the future dai', it is important for us to understand the different problems or issues during the asatizahs' era and the current issues in our era so we could tackle the issues wisely.

On one short evening, Alexandrians were touched by their warmth and care despite our small number which is around 20 girls BUT with their thoughts we were able to gather our strength and start to believe that WE TOO CAN achieve and succeed. They motivated, they inspired and they assured us that we are not alone. Before their goodbye, emails were exchanged in hope to continue this ukhuwah and for them to be there in our need for advices or guidance for THEY ARE THE CANDLES THAT LIGHT OUR DARKNESS. :)

With this, we thank them, Teacher Khairiana and husband, Ustaz Affendi, Ustaz Zakir and wife, Ustaz Mokhsan and family, Ustaz Murat and family for their thoughts and care. Last but not least, our sister Aisyah and 2 brothers, Muhammad and Salleh from Cairo for assisting in this gathering.

We pray that we'll be given another opportunity to share such blissful meeting and may Allah shower His endless love and blessings towards each and everyone of us.
We also would like to take this opportunity to apologise on any of our short- comings during the visit. Hopefully everyone has benefited from the event. Amiiiin.

From the two of us sincerely;
Liyana and Hazimah Ulfah.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step :)

This year, PERKEMAS had came up with a different destination for its rehlah.
With the theme : Shadow of the past, light for the present.
Perkemas's Rehlah had successfully brought a group of 54 azhariyeans to Luxor and Hurghada - Egypt.
Such trip is required to broaden our sights and minds as Allah the Almighty mentioned in the glorious Quran:

Say "Travel through the earth and see how Allah did originate creation;
So will Allah produce a later creation: for Allah has the power over all things."
(Al Ankabut : 20)

With various group member of diffrent ages, this rehlah seemed to have reached its objective in building ukhuwwah among the azhariyeans. We had challenging games, good foods and great companies along the three days spent. Couldnt ask for more huh. Hee.... ;))

During our stay, we were brought to some of the most historical places in Luxor to experience the breathtaking historical sights that many might not know of, such as The Memnon Colossus, The Hatshepsut Temple,The Karnak Temple, The Luxor Temple and The Valley of the Kings.
And we were lucky to be given the chance to enjoy the breezy and beautiful Red Sea which enthralled us all in Hurghada.

Ok, enough said! So lets just enjoy the pictures below. Well, pictures do tell a thousand words. Agree?. ;D

Day One; Upon arrival.
Chek-in hotel and "Hello Hurghada!"
Hurghada, on the west shore of the red sea, is a chaotic tourism attraction. Complete with resorts, international bars, restaurants and nightclubs. It has some good scuba diving, and is a popular place to learn to dive. Under water fauna include wide tipped sharks, eagle rays and giant morays. Not to forget, protected coral reefs and their marine denizens.

Day Two, Luxor;
First stop: The Memnon Colossus
The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. For the past 3400 years they have stood in the Theban necropolis, across the River Nile from the modern city of Luxor. The statues are made from blocks of quartzite sandstone. They reach a towering 18 metres (approx. 60 ft) in height. They weigh an estimated 700 tons each.

Second stop: The Hatshepsut Temple
The Mortuary Temple of is situated beneath the cliffs at on the west bank of the Nile near the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. Designed by the architect Senemut, the mortuary temple is dedicated to the sun god and resides beside the mortuary temple of Mentuhotep, which served both as an inspiration, and later, a quarry. It is considered one of the "incomparable monuments of ancient Egypt."

Third stop: The Valley of the Kings.
The valley of the kings buried the tombs of more than 60 kings. Tutankhamun's tomb is an obligatory stop but most of its treasures are in Egyptian antiquities museum. Many more tombs are no more than tunnels in which few scrapes of painting or relief are the only indication of their antiquity.

Forth stop: The Karnak Temple
One of the most largest and the most impressive temples of all the temple sites in Egypt, Karnak is the culmination of three main temples, and a number of outer temples - the combined achievements of a great many generations of ancient builder. The vast complex was built and enlarged over a period of 1300 years and stands on a site covering 247 acres of land.

Third day; The Glassboat ride.
The Red Sea has a maximum depth of 2211 m (7254 ft) in the central median trench and an average depth of 490 m (1,608 feet ), but there are also extensive shallow shelves, noted for their marine life and corals. The sea is the habitat of over 1,000 invertebrate species and 200 soft and hard corals and is the world's northernmost tropical sea.

Therefore, myself, Liyana, reporting from Alexandria and being one of the participants is well satisfied with the 3days 2nights trip. Thumbs up for the 15 AJKs for making this journey a memorable one for most of us. :D :D
