Pomegranate a day, keeps the doctor away!

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim,

Alexandrians gathered on 26th march at Yusraa for one of Kebajikan's program; "Let's talk about food." Now if u think it was a typical video sharing and get-about talk, well it's more than that because everybody leaves today acknowledging and appreciating more of our body and our health.

You ever get so sick of people saying and reminding us to take good care of our health? To exercise often? To eat vegetables and live a healthy diet life blablabla?. Well, after watching the documentary hosted by world famous chef Jamie Oliver it sure knocked senses into us! The video features the food we eat; fast food, junk food, even the health result of a vegetarian and a non-obese person. Just because u're not fat so you think u're healthy?. Think again! In an experiment in this video, the obese guy ran longer than the normal-weight guy. And result shows that the normal weight guy has more fats than the obese. So again..life aren't that simple. Being healthy is something we need to strive for and maintain it. How?. First maybe is by being moderate in everything we eat! Lil bit of fruits, veges, meats, milk, rice and fats..how hard can that be?. :)

The real eye opener was a corpse of an obese man. And what was underneath his skin?. All the fat layers covering the heart and pushing up the lungs causing him to his death. It shows half of his intestine areas was huge lumps of fats! How gross was that?? So again we ask, do we want to be like that person? Do we want to eat ourself to death?? Oh please no, because health is a crown that was awarded for us ONCE. We treasure it..take real good care of it cause once we lose it..we've lost it all. So all, let's start living the way we should be living by exercising, eating the good stuff and stay away from the danger zone..shall we?. ;))

To sum all this up, a very big 'THANK YOU' for:

  1. Our chefs of the day; Ukt Sakinah with her healthy yet yummy Okonomiyaki. And ukt Sarah for the all time favourite; Shepard's pie.
  2. Our invited speaker; Ukt Liyana for sharing her experience in cooking and eating while overseas.
  3. Our Kebajikan Unit; leader-ed by Ukt Fadhlina and her 2 best women; Ukt Zurainah and Ukt Ulfah for making this evening a successful one!
  4. Last but not least, to the supportive Alexandrian girls who came and made this day even possible!.

May Allah showered his endless blessings and gifts on us. Hope we've benefited from this program and to the programs yet to come!
Next event; Seeking the ray of light. So till then, take care all! <3<3

Thank you,
Liyana Abd Rahaim.

Principles of Success---In the light of Seerah
By Maulana Wahiduddin Khan

It is a well-known fact that the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) was the supremely successful man in the entire human history. But he was not just a hero, as Thomas Carlyle has called him. According to the Qur’an, he was a good example for all mankind. He has shown us the way of achieving supreme success in this world.
By studying the life of the Prophet we can derive those important principles which were followed by the Prophet. In short, the Prophet of Islam was a positive thinker in the full sense of the word. All his activities were result-oriented. He completely refrained from all such steps as may prove counter-productive.

First Principle: To begin from the possibleThis principle is well explained in a saying of Aishah. She said: "Whenever the Prophet had to choose between two options, he always opted for the easier choice." (Al-Bukhari)To choose the easiest option means to begin from the possible, and one who begins from the possible will surely reach his goal.
Second Principle: To see advantage in disadvantageIn the early days of Mecca, there were many problems and difficulties. At that time, a guiding verse in the Qur’an was revealed. It said: "With every hardship there is ease, with every hardship there is ease." (94:5-6).This means that if there are some problems, there are also opportunities at the same time. And the way to success is to ignore the problems and avail the opportunities.
Third Principle: To change the place of actionThis principle is derived from the Hijrah. Hijrah was not just a migration from Mecca to Medina. It was to find a more suitable place for Islamic work, as history proved later on.
Fourth Principle: To make a friend out of an enemyThe prophet of Islam was repeatedly subjected to practices of antagonism by the unbelievers. At that time the Qur’an enjoined upon him the return of good for evil. And then, as the Qur’an added, "You will see your direst enemy has become your closest friend" (41:34).

It means that a good deed in return of a bad deed has a conquering effect over your enemies. And the life of the Prophet is a historical proof of this principle.

Fifth Principle: To turn minus into plusAfter the Battle of Badr, about 70 of the unbelievers were taken as the prisoners of war. They were educated people. The Prophet announced that if any one of them would teach ten Muslim children how to read and write he would be freed. This was the first school in the history of Islam in which all of the students were Muslims, and all of the teachers were from the enemy rank. Here I shall quote a British orientalist who remarked about the Prophet of Islam: He faced adversity with the determination to wring success out of failure.
Sixth Principle: The power of peace is stronger than the power of violenceWhen Mecca was conquered, all of the Prophet’s direst opponents were brought before him. They were war criminals, in every sense of the word. But the Prophet did not order to kill them. He simply said: "Go, you are free." The result of this kind behavior was miraculous. They immediately accepted Islam.
Seventh Principle: Not to be a dichotomous thinkerIn the famous Ghazwa of Muta, Khalid bin Walid decided to withdraw Muslim forces from the battlefield because he discovered that the enemy was unproportionately outnumbered. When they reached Medina, some of the Muslims received them by the word "O Furrar" (O deserters!) The Prophet said "No. They are Kurrar" (men of advancement)."Those Medinan people were thinking dichotomously, either fighting or retreating. The Prophet said no. There is also a third option, and that is to avoid war and find a time to strengthen yourself. Now history tells us that the Muslims, after three years of preparation, advanced again towards the Roman border and this time they won a resounding victory.

Eighth Principle: To bring the battle in one’s own favorable fieldThis principle is derived from the Ghazwa of Hudaibiyya. At that time, the unbelievers were determined to engage Muslims in fighting, because obviously they were in an advantageous position. But the Prophet, by accepting their conditions unilaterally, entered into a pact. It was a ten-year peace treaty. Until then, the meeting ground between Muslims and non-Muslims had been on the battlefield. Now the area of conflict became that of ideological debate. Within two years, Islam emerged as victorious because of the simple reason of its ideological superiority.
Ninth Principle: Gradualism instead of radicalismThis principle is well-established by a hadith of Al-Bukhari. Aishah says that the first verses of the Qur’an were related mostly to heaven and hell. And then after a long time when the people’s hearts had softened, the specific commands to desist from adultery and drinking were revealed in the Qur’an.This is a clear proof that for social changes, Islam advocates the evolutionary method, rather than the revolutionary method.
Tenth Principle: To be pragmatic in controversial mattersDuring the writing of Hudaibiyyah treaty, the Prophet dictated these words: "This is from Muhammad, the Messenger of God." The Qurayshi delegate raised objections over these words. The Prophet promptly changed the word and ordered to write simply Muhammad, son of Abdullah. These were the principles through which the Prophet of Islam gained that success which has been recognized by historians as the supreme success.
In the end, I would like to repeat those ten principles of success:
1. To begin from the possible
2. To see advantage in disadvantage
3. To change the place of action
4. To make a friend out of an enemy
5. To turn minus into plus
6. The power of peace is stronger than the power of violence
7. Not to be a dichotomous thinker
8. To bring the battle in one’s own favorable field
9. Gradualism instead of radicalism
10. To be pragmatic in controversial matters

Kerohanian; Seeking the ray of light

Seeking the ray of light part 1
..
Seeking the ray of light, the given name for weekly program conducted by keroHONEYan unit. As for the first program, it was held at masjid Uthman Bin Uthman, Asofirah. All of us gathered for maghrib prayer in jemaah and also short briefing of what to expect from keroHONEYan programs. New programs such as dars, tasmi Quraan & selected few hadith will come right up before us. So stay tuned to follow up our upcoming activities.

Next, to Gami’ Amru bin Al As.. The porpose of going there is to show them where the dars held. The Alex babes need to take note the dates to join the dars by popular sheikh, Sheikh 3alaa’.
Before we go back home, there was tazkirah by sis Umai & Mardhiah and also sharing session with all.

Last words from me; as naib raisah of KeroHONEYan, Praises all to HIM because to have this opportunity to conduct few events. It’s a good start because I learn something new and benefits me a lot for the future. Although I don’t have the skill, hoping with the help of the members in community and also the support that I have from alex babes, insya Allah, we could make all this happen.
Also, I highlighted that dakwah is not easy as I thought. Dakwah ilal kheir minnafsi thumma ilal gama3ah 3amatan.. Big yet simple, dakwah begins with me J

Deep in my heart, Im really sorry for the late updates of keroHONEYan.

From a humble & petite writer;

Exco Visit,

Salam everyone

On the 5th of march 2010, we were honored to welcome our respected Perkemas excos for their visit here in Alex. The event was held at Yusra a.k.a the house of our beloved mandubah. On the actual day, we served them variety of dishes for their lunch as they had a long and tiring journey from Cairo to Alex.

After settling down, the ta'aruf session started, followed by the speech from the president of Perkemas; Fakhrur Radzi. Some important issues were brought up such as our safety precautions, the activities happening in Cairo, subsidies for our Alex babes and such. The excos also officialised the Lajnahs' @ Alex.

We also did share bits n pieces of our life stories here in Alex, along with our new updates of the lajnah through slideshows which consist from 1-lajnah kebajikan 2-lajnah kerohanian and  3- lajnah academic. Alhamdulillah, we were well supported by the excos and we hope that everything would sail smoothly for us insyaAllah.

Finally du'a was recited as the closure for the exco visit of 2009/2010.

Every goodbye makes the next hello closer
Our memories of yesterday will last a lifetime
We'll take the best, forget the rest
and someday we'll find these are the best of times
It is the end of something simple
but the beginning of everything else

p/s: thanks for the hamper :)

Birthday Celebrations cum Farewell party

Salams to all!
May you be in the best state of health and iman. Aamin.

Alhamdulillah, we the the Alex babes had once again gathered on 3rd Dec- for the third time,
officially at Beit Farawlah in celebrating the winter babies' birthday (those born in oct, nov and dec),
and also a surprise farewell party for our beloved senior sister Hidayah.
the main purpose of having this kind of gathering, is to strengthen the ukhuwwah between us,
to acknowledge their birth (part of Allah's creation) and at the same time having fun together (:

Started with an opening speech by Sister Hazimah Ulfah, and folowwed by an old-school game- PYRAMID
organised by the duo sister Fadhlina and Sister H.Ulfah from The Welfare Unit.
it was an exiciting game, that made us all shout and laugh all the way trough it
the two groups- "kami" and "jannah" - was so eager to answer and solve the question.
we also played the game W.L.I.A ( who's line is it any way ), a game that really test our creativity.

in the middle of this two games, we actually had a break. we performed our isyak prayers together,
and then enjoy our supper- firakh masywi (grilled chicken), fatirah (murtabak), sliced guavas
and lemonade as the thirst quencher. YUMMY!

next- right after the second game- we proceed to the cake-cutting session.
a yummy-est choc-fruity cake shared by us all. nice!

and yeah! the last event of the day, a suprised farewell party for sister hidayah!
a video presentation, award giving session, and a farewell gift from us; Alex babes.
it was a touching moment. especially when sister hidayah gave her last speech to us.

"bila Allah berikan kite sesuatu ujian, kite harus fikir bahawa setiap ujian pasti akan ada kemanisannya,
sentiasalah bersangka baik kepada Allah"

"kak dayah sayang korang semua"

and yes sister hidayah! we all love you too. you're the bestest senior we ever had.

and that bestly suits the award of being 'The Best Senior' of Alex.

Here are some of the pictures..

I guess that's all for now.
I hope readers out there, would care to pray for us all,
as our fisrt sem examination is just around the corner.

Till we meet again.. insyaAllah (:
Wassalamu 'alaikum wr. wb.

idul adha 2009

Bismillahirrahman Nirrahimm..

Ana dapat menyambut dengan keluarga BARU, my lovely sisters of Islam in Alexandria.

Sedap ye. Masya Allah.

Selesai semua para Muslimah menunaikan solat Idul Adha, mereka terus pulang ke beit Yusra untuk berkumpul dan merayakan Idul Adha bersama.

Jom kita santap! Inilah dia juadahnya…

yumm ummmm yummy food!! Rugi tau siapa tak makan nie. Hehe..

Next, a game was held by my lovely sister, Sister Sarah Umairah & Sister Mardhiah. The game was called, TABOO. *bunyi macam peek-a boo* hehe. I guess you must know how the game goes. we were divided into 2 groups, team 1 & team 2.

The members of team 1 were, the writer, Sister Nadiah, Sister Sakinah, Sister Fadhilah & Sister Jannah.

The members of team 2 were, Sister Hazimah Ulfa, Sister Liyana, Sister Liyana Rahim, Sister Masyitah & Sister Umairah.

During the first round of the game. Team 2 was defeated. ;)) and in the second round, Team 1 won AGAIN although by one mark. In the nutshell, our bonds were growing fast and tight. i saw the closeness of us being together. Thank you Allah.

Enough of playing, we then watched a malay movie, Tetamu Allah. Lights off, window closed and the show started. A great movie. There is something to ponder on. Lesson learned from the movie, Allah is the Most Merciful and the Forgiver. Subhanallah. Islam is pretty indeed.

Saat kami semua khusyuk menonton nya.

*kriiikkkk krruuuukkk* oppsss! Stomach growling again. I want food! Here we go again! Eat and eat.

And we all headed to our homes. Even we are separated, our bonds still remain tight. We are forever sisters of Islam, now and here after.

Not to forget! The picture of Alex Family. Loving each other each and every day.Okay?

Wallahu Warrasulu A’alam..

Her words of love,

Norliyana Bte Ibrahim..
