With an open arms..

On wednesday, 9th December 2009 Alexandrian girls were blessed to share an evening session with our beloved asatizahs from Singapore. Other than spending their time holiday-ing with their beloved ones here in Egypt,they decided to visit us regardless their busy schedule and we thank them and Allah for that. Qola Ta'la in his noble Quran:

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاكُم مِّن ذَكَرٍ وَأُنثَى وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ شُعُوباً وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا

"O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. one of the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2)]. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware." (Surah Hujuraat; 13)

Through experienced and studies,the asatizahs were equipped with opinions, views and advices for us to become a better student with greater achievements. At the same time,preparing us with some brief expectation from the society of an intellectual dai' in today's challenging world.
Some of the points highlighted was the importance of reading not just kuliah subjects by Aljunied's vice principal; Ustaz Mokson Mahori,it is also a key to becoming an intelligent preacher.
Aljunied's Executive Director; Ustaz Md Murat Md Aris, also shared with us tips on success and a key to that is to SET A TARGET.
This reminds me of a saying; "Always aim for the sky, for if u fall at least you can reach the clouds."

Over some beverages and tea, Ust Murat also encouraged us to continue seeking for knowledge; (regardless Islamic or academic) as both are important for success in this world and hereafter. He also expressed his worries on the generation gap between the 'experienced' asatizahs and us, that might cause insecurities and doubts from the society. Therefore as the future dai', it is important for us to understand the different problems or issues during the asatizahs' era and the current issues in our era so we could tackle the issues wisely.

On one short evening, Alexandrians were touched by their warmth and care despite our small number which is around 20 girls BUT with their thoughts we were able to gather our strength and start to believe that WE TOO CAN achieve and succeed. They motivated, they inspired and they assured us that we are not alone. Before their goodbye, emails were exchanged in hope to continue this ukhuwah and for them to be there in our need for advices or guidance for THEY ARE THE CANDLES THAT LIGHT OUR DARKNESS. :)

With this, we thank them, Teacher Khairiana and husband, Ustaz Affendi, Ustaz Zakir and wife, Ustaz Mokhsan and family, Ustaz Murat and family for their thoughts and care. Last but not least, our sister Aisyah and 2 brothers, Muhammad and Salleh from Cairo for assisting in this gathering.

We pray that we'll be given another opportunity to share such blissful meeting and may Allah shower His endless love and blessings towards each and everyone of us.
We also would like to take this opportunity to apologise on any of our short- comings during the visit. Hopefully everyone has benefited from the event. Amiiiin.

From the two of us sincerely;
Liyana and Hazimah Ulfah.

BRAIN AND LIVER DAMAGING HABITS

Salam.. :)

One more month to our exam insyaAllah.. i would like to share an email i received sometime ago about our daily bad habits that we are unaware of.. habits that are damaging to two of our most important organ.. Especially during xms, where we are prone to stress and sleepless night. Hope this will benefit us. :).

BRAIN DAMAGING HABITS

1. No Breakfast
People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level. This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.

2. Overeating
It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.

3. Smoking
It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.

4. High Sugar consumption
Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.

5. Air Pollution
The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body.
Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing
about a decrease in brain efficiency.

6. Sleep Deprivation
Sleep allows our brain to rest. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells.

7. Head covered while sleeping
Sleeping with the head covered, increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.

8. Working your brain during illness
Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.

9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts
Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.

10. Talking Rarely
Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain

Background on the Liver

Your liver, the largest organ in your body, plays a vital role in regulating life processes. This complex organ performs many functions essential to life. You simply cannot live without it.

The liver is located behind the lower ribs on the right side of your abdomen. It weighs about 3 pounds and is roughly the size of a football.

Your liver plays a key role in converting food into essential chemicals of life. All of the blood that leaves the stomach and intestines must pass through the liver before reaching the rest of the body. The liver is thus strategically placed to process nutrients and drugs absorbed from the digestive tract into forms that are easier for the rest of the body to use. In essence, the liver can be thought of as the body's refinery.

Your liver plays a principal role in removing toxic substances from the blood. If possible, the liver converts them to substances that can be easily eliminated from the body. It also manufactures and exports important substances used by the rest of the body. For example, the liver makes bile, a greenish-brown fluid which is essential for digestion. Bile is stored in the gallbladder which, after eating, contracts and discharges bile into the intestine, where it aids digestion. Many drugs taken to treat diseases are also chemically modified by the liver. These changes govern the drug's activity in the body.

Your liver helps you by:

Producing quick energy when it is needed;
Manufacturing new body proteins;
Preventing shortages in body fuel by storing certain vitamins, minerals, and sugars;
Regulating transport of fat stores;
Regulating blood clotting;
Aiding in the digestive process by producing bile;
Controlling the production and excretion of cholesterol;
Neutralizing and destroying poisonous substances;
Metabolizing alcohol;
Monitoring and maintaining the proper level of many chemicals and drugs in the blood;
Cleansing the blood and discharging waste products into the bile;
Maintaining hormone balance;
Serving as the main organ of blood formation before birth;
Helping the body resist infection by producing immune factors and by removing bacteria from the bloodstream;
Regenerating its own damaged tissue; and
Storing iron.

The main causes of liver damage are:

1. Sleeping too late and waking up too late are main cause.
2. Not urinating in the morning.
3. Too much eating.
4. Skipping breakfast.
5. Consuming too much medication.
6. Consuming too much preservatives, additives, food coloring, and artificial sweetener.
7. Consuming unhealthy cooking oil. As much as possible reduce cooking oil use when frying, which includes even the best cooking oils like olive oil.. Do not consume fried foods when you are tired, except if the body is very fit.
8. Consuming raw (overly done) foods also add to the burden of liver.

Veggies should be eaten raw or cooked 3-5 parts. Fried veggies should be finished in one sitting, do not store.

We should prevent this without necessarily spending more. We just have to adopt a good daily lifestyle and eating habits. Maintaining good eating
habits and time condition are very important for our bodies to absorb and get rid of unnecessary chemicals according to "schedule."

Because:
Evening at 9 - 11pm: is
the time for eliminating unnecessary/toxic chemicals (detoxification) from the antibody system (lymph nodes). This time duration should be spent by relaxing or listening to music. If during this time a housewife is still in an unrelaxed state such as washing the dishes or monitoring children doing their homework, this will have a negative impact on health.

Evening at 11pm - 1am: is the detoxification process in the liver, and ideally should be done in a deep sleep state.

Early morning 1 - 3am: detoxification process in the gall, also ideally done in a deep sleep state.
Early morning 3 - 5am: detoxification in the lungs. Therefore there will sometimes be a severe cough for cough sufferers during this time. Since the detoxification process had reached the respiratory tract, there is no need to take cough medicine so as not to interfere with toxin removal process.
Morning 5 - 7am:
detoxification in the colon, you should empty your bowel.

Morning 7 - 9a m:
absorption of nutrients in the small intestine, you should be having breakfast at this time. Breakfast should be earlier, before 6:30am, for
those who are sick. Breakfast before 7:30am is very beneficial to those wanting to stay fit. Those who always skip breakfast, they should change their habits, and it is still better to eat breakfast
late until 9 - 10am rather than no meal at all.

Sleeping so late and waking up too late will disrupt
the process of removing unnecessary chemicals. Aside from that, midnight to 4:00 am is the time when the bone marrow produces blood. Therefore, have a good sleep and don't sleep late.

Birthday Celebrations cum Farewell party

Salams to all!
May you be in the best state of health and iman. Aamin.

Alhamdulillah, we the the Alex babes had once again gathered on 3rd Dec- for the third time,
officially at Beit Farawlah in celebrating the winter babies' birthday (those born in oct, nov and dec),
and also a surprise farewell party for our beloved senior sister Hidayah.
the main purpose of having this kind of gathering, is to strengthen the ukhuwwah between us,
to acknowledge their birth (part of Allah's creation) and at the same time having fun together (:

Started with an opening speech by Sister Hazimah Ulfah, and folowwed by an old-school game- PYRAMID
organised by the duo sister Fadhlina and Sister H.Ulfah from The Welfare Unit.
it was an exiciting game, that made us all shout and laugh all the way trough it
the two groups- "kami" and "jannah" - was so eager to answer and solve the question.
we also played the game W.L.I.A ( who's line is it any way ), a game that really test our creativity.

in the middle of this two games, we actually had a break. we performed our isyak prayers together,
and then enjoy our supper- firakh masywi (grilled chicken), fatirah (murtabak), sliced guavas
and lemonade as the thirst quencher. YUMMY!

next- right after the second game- we proceed to the cake-cutting session.
a yummy-est choc-fruity cake shared by us all. nice!

and yeah! the last event of the day, a suprised farewell party for sister hidayah!
a video presentation, award giving session, and a farewell gift from us; Alex babes.
it was a touching moment. especially when sister hidayah gave her last speech to us.

"bila Allah berikan kite sesuatu ujian, kite harus fikir bahawa setiap ujian pasti akan ada kemanisannya,
sentiasalah bersangka baik kepada Allah"

"kak dayah sayang korang semua"

and yes sister hidayah! we all love you too. you're the bestest senior we ever had.

and that bestly suits the award of being 'The Best Senior' of Alex.

Here are some of the pictures..

I guess that's all for now.
I hope readers out there, would care to pray for us all,
as our fisrt sem examination is just around the corner.

Till we meet again.. insyaAllah (:
Wassalamu 'alaikum wr. wb.

idul adha 2009

Bismillahirrahman Nirrahimm..

Ana dapat menyambut dengan keluarga BARU, my lovely sisters of Islam in Alexandria.

Sedap ye. Masya Allah.

Selesai semua para Muslimah menunaikan solat Idul Adha, mereka terus pulang ke beit Yusra untuk berkumpul dan merayakan Idul Adha bersama.

Jom kita santap! Inilah dia juadahnya…

yumm ummmm yummy food!! Rugi tau siapa tak makan nie. Hehe..

Next, a game was held by my lovely sister, Sister Sarah Umairah & Sister Mardhiah. The game was called, TABOO. *bunyi macam peek-a boo* hehe. I guess you must know how the game goes. we were divided into 2 groups, team 1 & team 2.

The members of team 1 were, the writer, Sister Nadiah, Sister Sakinah, Sister Fadhilah & Sister Jannah.

The members of team 2 were, Sister Hazimah Ulfa, Sister Liyana, Sister Liyana Rahim, Sister Masyitah & Sister Umairah.

During the first round of the game. Team 2 was defeated. ;)) and in the second round, Team 1 won AGAIN although by one mark. In the nutshell, our bonds were growing fast and tight. i saw the closeness of us being together. Thank you Allah.

Enough of playing, we then watched a malay movie, Tetamu Allah. Lights off, window closed and the show started. A great movie. There is something to ponder on. Lesson learned from the movie, Allah is the Most Merciful and the Forgiver. Subhanallah. Islam is pretty indeed.

Saat kami semua khusyuk menonton nya.

*kriiikkkk krruuuukkk* oppsss! Stomach growling again. I want food! Here we go again! Eat and eat.

 And we all headed to our homes. Even we are separated, our bonds still remain tight. We are forever sisters of Islam, now and here after.

Not to forget! The picture of Alex Family. Loving each other each and every day.Okay?

Wallahu Warrasulu A’alam..

Her words of love,

Norliyana Bte Ibrahim..
